Prepare for the Great Backyard Bird Count with WOW!
In this free, virtual program, we’ll be learning about winter and spring bird identification, seasonal bird migration, citizen science bird counts, and how birds and your woods interact. This program is suitable for birders of all experience levels. An email with the Zoom link will be sent out to those who register approximately one week before the call.
Meet our presenters:
Pamela (Pammi) Price, Environment and Natural Resources Program Coordinator at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties.
Pammi Price is a Certified Wildlife Biologist, with a M.Ed. in Environmental Education from Bard Center for Environmental Policy and a B.T. in Wildlife Management from SUNY Cobleskill. She’s worked with The Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center at John Boyd Thacher State Park on a bird themed display and lesson plan and prepared a taxidermy mount of a downy woodpecker for the Nature Center. During her master’s degree studies, she focused her Unit Plan project in Curriculum and Assessment class on birds. As part of her graduate program, Pammi participated in two long-term internships, including an Environmental Education Virtual Intern position with Missouri River Bird Observatory (MRBO), where she had the opportunity to combine her environmental education, wildlife biology and fine arts skills to help develop effective lessons through work on the Adaptation Unit for grades 6 – 8 for the MRBO Virtual Nature School program. Pammi uses citizen science in her education programs and has gained knowledge and insight into the practice of citizen science through the Citizen Science Association where she is a member of the communication committee.
Suzanne Treyger, Forest Program Manager at Audubon New York
Suzanne Treyger is the Forest Program Manager for Audubon New York, where she leads forest bird conservation work throughout New York State. Suzanne works with a variety of conservation partners to protect and improve forest habitat for birds, and provides education, technical assistance, and trainings about forest habitat management for birds to landowners and land managers. She is the lead author of two forest bird habitat management guides, and is a member of the forestry subcommittee of the NRCS-NY State Technical Committee as well as the Appalachian Mountains Joint Venture Technical Committee. Previously, Suzanne has worked for New Jersey Audubon, Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, New Hampshire Fish and Game Nongame and Endangered Species Program, and Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Suzanne holds a BS from the University of New Hampshire in Wildlife Management and a MS from the State University of New York – College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Forest and Natural Resources Management.
